Frequently Asked Questions
1. How often do you recommend one use the Cherubum® Personal Hygiene System?
A. For certain people internal cleansing of the bowel is a weekly or even more frequent event, such as those whose bowel performance is impaired by paralysis or other medical conditions. Consult with your licensed healthcare practitioner or physician to see what frequency of bowel cleansing is appropriate for you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. What makes the Cherubum® Personal Hygiene System so different from the other options?
A. You are given everything you need to get started with the Cherubum Personal Hygiene System—a stable platform and safe, simple-to-use enema supplies--just add water!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Why is the Cherubum® Personal Hygiene System so much easier to use than other types of enema kits?
A. Water is taken in and waste is expelled simultaneously without the need to jump back and forth to the toilet as one must when using a simple fountain kit. Plus, you’re spared inserting an enema tip multiple times during your session with the Cherubum® Personal Hygiene System.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. In what ways is your experience better on the Cherubum® Personal Hygiene System than on an enema board?
A. Cleansing boards have been fundamentally unstable contraptions. Contrast that with the stable Cherubum Lavage chair which docks over a toilet and is more comfortable to use, making your experience much more relaxing and, at the same time, more efficient in eliminating waste thoroughly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5: Where do I place my feet when I am using the Cherubum® Personal Hygiene System?
A: When sitting on the Cherubum Lavage Chair, simply put your feet on the foot rails located on either side of the lavage chair channel. Your feet will straddle the chair.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6: What is the separate plastic piece that goes over the Cherubum Lavage Chair channel and what does it do?
A: The plastic part is called a splashguard and it simply keeps water and waste material from splashing upward during your session. You place the splashguard in its counter sunk groove after you have attached the enema tip and lavage chair flex tube to the lavage chair.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Can I use other water containers with the Cherubum Lavage Chair besides the 9L (2.37 gallon) Cherubum Enema Kit that is included?
A. Sure, it is possible! The standard 9L water container supplies plenty of water for a bowel cleanse and after-enema clean up. However we also provide a larger 5 gallon (18.9 liter) water container to prevent getting up and down, which saves time and steps. The Cherubum Lavage Chair has a quick connect/disconnect feature for easy removal and exchange of the 9L water container. For the heavier 5 gallon water container, we recommend its placement high enough to create adequate gravity flow on a stable shelf adjacent to the Cherubum Lavage Chair. Note that water actually weighs 8 lbs. per gallon (5 gallons = 40 lbs).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. What’s the easiest way to push the flexible tubing or Lavage Chair flex tube onto the nylon fitting? Why is the Lavage Chair flex tube with enema tip so rigid anyway?
A. Simply run hot water over the tubing for a minute or two to make it more supple if you need to. Then just push it onto the basin barbed nylon fitting. When removing tubing for sanitization, carefully pour hot water over tubing if necessary for easy release from the nylon barbed fitting. We do not recommend bending the flex tube up and down on the barbed fitting because you may break it and need to have it replaced. Simply pull straight backwards off of the barbed fitting with consistent force and it will come off.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9. Enema systems by nature require inserting and removing the enema tip and taking in water repeated times and then jumping onto a toilet to expel waste. How is the Cherubum® Personal Hygiene System different?
A. The stable Cherubum system is different. The person sits on the lavage chair that is docked over a toilet and leans back. Then they shift their pelvis forward toward the enema tip and flex tube previously connected to the barbed nylon fitting. Then they insert the enema tip in their anal opening about 1 ½ inches. Then they open the thumb clamp from the water container allowing water into their body. Their body then naturally expels waste water around the nozzle and down the drain into the toilet.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10. Can I hang more than one 9L (2.37 gallon) water container from the telescopic stand?
A. This is not advised. The telescopic and wire hanger are rated for just one 9L water container at any one time. Purchasing an extra 9L container is an option though and you can use them successively. On the other hand, you may want to fill and refill the 9L bag during your cleanse to be thorough and then refill the bag at clean-up time so that you can use the shower spray head feature to rinse the lavage chair after disinfection. You will quickly see what works for you!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11. What is the proper temperature of water for an enema?
A. Water that is comfortable to the touch is acceptable. Be cautious—test the water with your hand and see that it is warm, not hot.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12: Will my toilet overflow while I am doing a session? Do I need to flush it?
A: You may flush your toilet as many times as needed or desired during your session. However, the water moving into the drain from your session will naturally push water already in the bowl down the drain. You can check this by pouring a bucket of water into your toilet bowl. Notice how the added water level naturally flushes the toilet. The same holds true when using the Cherubum Personal Hygiene System. Water and waste leaving your body will gravity flush the toilet, carrying waste down and away.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13: Is it normal for some waste material to get trapped in the connection between the enema tip and the Lavage Chair Flex Tube?
A: Of course, the space between the enema tip and flex tube can harbor waste material. If this happens during your session, separate the two after the session and sanitize them with the Spirit II disinfectant that comes with your system before reusing them. You may also opt to use new disposables each time, which can be ordered from the manufacturer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
14. Can I sanitize and re-use the personal hygiene tips and Lavage Chair Flex tubes?
A. Yes, as stated in the above question and answer you can sanitize and re-use both items or you can purchase new disposables for each session; it is a matter of personal choice. Simply, sanitize them with the Spirit II solution provided with the Cherubum Personal Hygiene System or any other high-quality disinfectant. Always thoroughly rinse after sanitizing and before re-using. More of these hygiene disposables are available for purchase as replacement kits A, B, C and D.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15. How easy is it to sanitize the 9L water container?
A. Very easy--all of the flexible vinyl tubing and the water container can be sanitized with soap and water or with the Spirit II disinfectant included with the hygiene system. Follow the easy-to-read label instructions on the Spirit II bottle and rinse each item thoroughly before each use.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
16. How easy is it to sanitize the Cherubum® Lavage Chair™?
A. It’s very simple to sanitize the lavage chair. Its high-quality polyethylene body can be sanitized and washed with the included Spirit II disinfectant or other disinfectant of your choice. The basin (seat) of the lavage chair can be mop washed, sanitized and then rinsed with the versatile shower spray head connected to the 9L water container. All sides can be easily and effectively spray disinfected, rinsed, and wiped dry as needed.
You can also spray disinfectant up into the basin nylon barbed fitting to sanitize it. Just rinse the spray out thoroughly by flowing water through the nylon barbed fitting from a connected water container on the other side.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
17. How do you use the inflatable pillow that’s included with the Cherubum®?
A:Depending on your needs, the Angel of Air™ Comfort Pillow can be used for either the head and neck area or for lumbar support. With only two full breaths the pillow is inflated and its firmness can be adjusted easily. The pillow comes in a washable casing that can be removed, washed and put back on again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18. What is the recommended weight limit for the Cherubum® Lavage Chair™?
A. The Cherubum® Lavage Chair™ is rated for 350 lbs.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
19. What if the Cherubum® Personal Hygiene System doesn’t fit in my bathroom? Can I still use it?
A. It is still possible to use the system. When the Cherubum Lavage Chair™ is open and ready to use, it’s dimensions are 56 L x 25 W x 38H. If space is tight, you can dock the lavage chair over a bathtub rim, over a shower pan in a shower stall or over any other kind of catch basin that can be rolled to the toilet for emptying.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
20. Can I transport the Cherubum® Personal Hygiene System?
A. Yes, you can--the Cherubum® Lavage Chair™ backrest folds forward and it’s base is equipped with wheels allowing easy portability and maneuverability. The dimensions of the folded unit are approximately 46 L x 25 W x 36 H and the lavage chair itself weighs 55 lb. It can fit into a hatch-back vehicle, mini-van or open-bed vehicle easily. The Cherubum® Personal Hygiene System easily transportable to take wherever you are going to support your self-care needs.
